Hello Rishi

Hello Rishi

Why did you get involved in Psychology as a career path and means of support?

My early life experience and challenges with family left me confident that there was an explanation to my experience. Studying psychology was initially a way to learn about how things work and why they turned out the way they did. Initially psychology served a purpose for self discovery, and along the way I was able to learn how to help others get to the same point.

What's your cultural background and what makes it out ?

I am Punjabi by birth and was born in Jalandhar. Family are practicing Hindus and many close friends and my wife is Sikh. I speak Hindi and Punjabi well, can get away with Urdu.

What sort of individual challenges can you best support?

Most people with mental health challenges- depression, anxiety, phobias or trauma. I bring a lived experience of mental health and cultural considerations for therapy, which I learned through my own experience accessing the MH system.

What are your areas of expertise and is there anything else you want to branch out into?

I absolutely love working with young people, 16-35. Part of me wants to share all I have learned with a young person who feels lost with mental health, family, friends, uni, school and and help them understand their own experience. Most importantly, show them that they will be ok.
