Welcome to our June edition of the Shakti Mental Health newsletter.
Excitingly! Over the next couple of months Shakti Mental health is partnering with Lifeline to support the mental health and wellbeing of International students and older multicultural community. See details below for our 'Speed friending for International Students' event on the 2nd July. Our Safe space program this month includes our carrom and chai night in Docklands! We are also supporting BCD theatre 'And What will people say' production which is coming to Melbourne after a sold out Sydney season and why not end your week by coming to our June (ME)ditation session!
Words of wellbeing: Each month our newsletter will introduce you to a different word in South Asian language used to convey wellbeing and emotions. South Asian words that explain feelings and emotions English never could.
Hlādinī Hindi Sanskrit: ह्लादिनी a term that describes that which quietly nourishes the soul, bringing a gentle joy or bliss that refreshes without excitment or excess.
उसकी मुस्कान में एक ह्लादिनी शक्ति है जो सबको खुश कर देती है।”

June Safe Spaces program
Our June Safe space is carrom night, get your carrom skills, friends and chai ready!
Date: Friday 26th June
Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Location: Community Hub at the Dock (912 Collins St Docklands 3008)
Supported by Roses in the Ocean, Shakti Mental Health and Umeed Psychology are running a safe spaces program; 'Hum Saath Safe Spaces' based in the Melbourne CBD. Hum Saath safe spaces is a non clinical drop in program for multicultural community who have experienced emotional or suicidal distress.

Speed friending for international students
Calling all international students in Melbourne! Join us to take part in an evening of speed friending and meet new people. A chance to make real connections over shared experiences, interests and lots of conversations! Maan ki Baat research study participation
Researchers at La Trobe University are conducting a research study on partner drinking habits in Indian communities.
They are looking for women of Indian origin 18+ to take part in the study
Participation inlcudes a 60- 90 minute 1:1 in person or online interview with the researcher. Participants will be compensated for their time.

And What will people say: BCD Theatre
And What Will People Say? is an electrifying 60-minute immersive theatre experience that blends Indian dance, original music, and spoken word to explore the unspoken realities of domestic violence within families and communities. Told through the eyes of a mother and her children, this powerful piece invites audiences into a deeply personal journey of love, fear, shame, and resilience.
Shakti MH will be taking part in a panel discussion on the show themes at the 11th July show.
